It Looks Like Christmas Threw Up on my Mantel and Other News

My husband isn’t known for his, -hmm.. how do I put this politely? – “restraint” when it comes to decorating.

Witness what happened to our faux fireplace mantel when I wasn’t supervising looking last night:

Help! Where is my mantel??

Yes, Rudolph and all his Misfit Toy Ornament friends have taken up residence on the fireplace. We’d better get a tree sooner than later to put these on because, I love you honey, but this is a bit much!

But, as dismayed as I was, I did tear up when Jeff hung our stockings. Not only because it will be our first Christmas in our new house, but because………….. we have a little becoming-baby on the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hadn’t planned on announcing the good news on this blog until we see a heartbeat in a few weeks because my Aunt reads it, but now that the cat is out of the bag anyway there is no reason for my to keep quiet here anymore.

So that’s my good news for the century day, please pray, hope, send good vibes or whatever that little becoming-baby sticks around for his/her debut sometime around August 12th, 2008.

And your husbands decorating panache is very sweet :)

  6. I’m sorry but your fireplace mantle is way beyond repair. You are looking at a full tear out at this point

  7. Congratulations!!! That is so exciting!! Next year will we be privy to a wee stocking hung up there on that mantle? Our mantle-less house looks a bit like yours (except our Misfit toys are leaning up against the menorah on top of the TV). Oh yeah! Happy Holidays! And congratulations again.

  8. Thanks for delurking Blustar!

EB, its funny you asked about the wee stocking.. you can see that in the picture to the left is a tiny one. I originally thought Jeff had gotten it for the baby.. but then I realized we had bought it last year for our dog LOL!

  9. Congratulations!!!! I’m so excited for you! (Now I can be all like ‘Don, Ariana and Jeff have a white kitchen AND they are pregnant — WE SHOULD TOO!’)

  10. CONGRATULATIONS!!! You’re going to make such a great mama.

  11. Thanks sarah!

Haha Jamaila.. if only it were that easy! I hope you have better luck getting him to agree to try for baby than you did with the white kitchen :)

  12. Congratulations! And I think your mantle is beautiful. Maybe it’s not the “picture perfect” mantle we all see in our minds when we decorate, but it looks so bright and happy. It makes me smile.

I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
I knew when we had not heard from you in so long that you were up to something. Glad it was something good!!!
