No, not THAT one, that one isn’t due until August–I’m talking about our brand spanking new school-bus-yellow Dyson All Floors DC07!

Some of you may remember this post in October when I solicited your advice for a good vacuum cleaner. Like most things related to cleaning in my life (and making decisions) I procrastinated for quite a while on actually taking the plunge until my third sneezing attack in a row in our own bedroom made me face the allergen infested facts – we needed a good vacuum and we needed it now.

After some reasearch of product reviews on we decided on the Bisell 5770 Healthy Home Bagless Upright. Bonus, it was on sale at Sears, so off we went to check it out yesterday morning.

True to all of the zealous claims, it is an awesome vacuum at a pretty reasonable $230 some dollars. There was only one small problem…

Bisell Healthy HomeI could barely lift it. If I had a ranch style house it would have been a contender, but there was no way I was getting that puppy up and down our stairs, particularly when pregnant.

So off we went to Bed Bath and Beyond to take a look see because I was searching for a local store that had this cheap but well reviewed Hoover Windtunnel canister vacuum but no dice.

Next stop, Target. Nothing struck our fancy until we noticed that the Dyson DC07 was on clearance down from $399 to $339. Sucker that I am for a perceived bargain and all of your proclaimations of undying love for your Dyson vacuums in the back of my mind we decided to grab it. We’d take it back if the reviews weren’t good.

Back at home, I started reading reviews of the Dyson. 4.5 out of 5 starrs reviewed by hundreds of people – not bad. Most people really liked the vacuum. The only complaints were from people that had mechanical difficulties and weren’t satisfyed by Dyson’s customer service.

Then I came accross a post from someone who bought theirs from Bed Bath and Beyond using one of the 20% off coupons (that I have like 100 of) and he said that the manager at BB&B had told him that as long as he saved the receipt, he could return the vacuum at anytime no questions asked – negating any reason to have to deal with Dyson repair service!

Now, having registered for our wedding both at Target and BB&B, I can tell you that there is no comparison between the return policies and customer service, BB&B wins hands down.  Combine that with the fact that 20% off of $399 is $20 cheaper than what we paid at target, we ended up returning it to Target and purchasing it at BB&B.

Whew, it was a long morning before we ever got to actually USE our new toy! But the wait was so worth it, and I didn’t sneeze once last night in our newly-vacuumed-allergen-free bedroom.

The kicker of it all? Later that afternoon in an unrelated trip to costco, we saw the Hoover we had been looking for all along! Oh well, I hope the Dyson lives up to it’s name and reputation and doesn’t make me regret the extra $150 or so we spent on it!

  1. OHH! This post could not have come at a better time! Kyle and I are sitting on a $100 gift certificate to BB&B, but cannot make a decision about a vacuum cleaner….I like canisters, he likes uprights, I’ve always had Electrolux, but the Dyson’s seem so damn appealing.

Can I ask where you did the bulk of your research? I was contemplating a month long subscription to Consumer Reports or something if I couldn’t find a free site that I trusted…

  2. I have the pink Dyson, and there are many good things about it. However, the one thing that I absolutely hate is the wand. It’s just plain ridiculous and hard to use. The vacuum itself is great, the suction really is amazing, but trying to do around the baseboards is just a big pain. Hopefully you will like that part better than I do.

  3. I love my Dyson, (2003). I had some problems with the parts dept that services NY but when I brought that to the attention of Dyson Customer Service they sent me the part I wanted for free – expedited delivery! Enjoy.

  4. Yeah, we got the Hoover from Costco (Best Buy Rated it a Best Buy) and I absolutely LOVE it. Got two actually. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. My mom loved it so much she went out and purchased the same one for their house. I’m sure you’ll like the Dyson too.

  5. I hate the sneezing.. hope the new vacuum helps!

  6. Ah, I just got a Dyson not too long ago as well (and we bought ours with a 20% off coupon too)! I have the purple “animal” model – the spinny rotating brush attachment is amazing.

I was going to go with the Bissel Healthy Home too after reading all of the good reviews on Consumer Reports (I had bought a one month subscription), but the Dyson lovers were adamant in their Dyson love so we went with that. ;)

  7. I had two problems with my Dyson (my ignorance NOT their workmanship) and I was so impressed with their customer service. I got a REAL LIVE person on the phone that wasn’t outsourced to New Delhi and he/she talked me through my issue in less than 5 minutes.

    I puffy heart my Dyson!

  8. Kim, I did the bulk of my research on, (the customer reviews). People really take the time to go into detail and I feel like its a pretty good place to get opinions from people who actually use it day in and day out.

Wow, I’m glad to hear that those of you who have had to deal with customer service actually had good experiences!

Sher, I’m glad you love the Hoover, its pretty cute isn’t it? It looks like R2D2 :) It’s a great option for anyone vacuum shopping who’s looking for a canister rather than upright.

  9. That post title makes me laugh :-)

  10. We have the Hoover Windtunnel canister vacuum and it’s worked great for us – works for wood floors better than I thought a vacuum ever would. BUT IT’S SO LOUD. I hope your new addition doesn’t wake the other “new addition” while napping.

  11. Gorgeous vacuum. I may be a tad jealous [ok, I am]! And WONDERFUL blog. Your before and afters are fabulous – you have the house I’d love to have if we weren’t still renting :-(
