Dining Room Rug Take II.
December 6th, 2007 by ariana
First of all, THANK YOU For all the well wishes on our new little “project!”
Now, about the rug..
Instead of going back to the bigger (and farther away) Home Goods where we got the original too small dining room rug, we went to the one closer to our house. They didn’t have the same rug in the next bigger size, but they did have something very similar so we went for it. Of course now I don’t like it as much as the other one!
Here’s the new bigger rug:
Its a nice pattern, but I think I liked the subtlety of the other one better. Plus the colors in the other one also looked a bit more subdued and antique. The blue and the cream have less contrast in the old rug which I liked.. Here’s the old too small one again:
Much better right?
Now we just have to hope that they have it in the larger size at the farther away HomeGoods. At least we got the size right this time I think so we’re getting closer…What do you all think?
I like the new one. Maybe it’s because of the side-by-side comparison, but the original one looks “washed-out” now. Such a beautiful room, btw.
Looks like a great size, and very pretty, too.
First of all…congrats! Soooo very happy for you both!
Ok, I like the new rug BETTER! Sorry…but I do! :o)
Smiles,
Jen
I like the new one better, too. Also, after it hangs out in the room for a while, being walked on and basking in the sunshine, it’ll probably fade, anyway.
I think I like the first rug better. I like how that blue in that one is just an accent to tie it in with the walls. The second rug just looks to busy to me. Isn’t picking a rug fun…? ;)
I love the new rug !
I like them both, but I like the pattern of the smaller one better. That said, what’s the stain-resistancy of either of them…cause like…everyone loves spaghetti…and kids love spaghettios…
Hmmm, opinion seems to be almost evenly divided. Damn!
Iloveupstate, I doubt its even mildly stain resistant.. which means no spaghettios for becoming-baby! ;)
We did the exact same thing when we guessed about rug size. I tried to make the small one work, but I knew it wasn’t right. Looks so much better when you put the bigger rug in, doesn’t it?
Aaaand, congratulations! So happy to hear you news, and I hope you are feeling well.
I like the new one! :)
Well, I’ll try to break the tie. I honestly like them both, but I think the new rug looks fantastic. It’s the perfect size, and the color/design are are great. Besides, becoming baby probably won’t be eating spaghettios in the dining room, right?…and you can always put a little mat down if they do. Great job!
I like the first one better, too. Can you call ahead and ask if they have it?
Congratulations, by the way! That is SO exciting!
I like the new one better!
I vote for the “old” smaller one in color but larger one is much better size!!!
Congrats on your HUGE news, and I like the new rug best. :)
I like the new one! I think the deeper color makes your dining set pop! (Now that I look again it may just be that the lighting is different in the two pics, but I still like the larger one.
I am sure you know this, but in the end you have to decide what you are willing to live with. If the first one is the one you really want, I hope you can find it! :)
like them both, but the new one, has a bit more life and also the size looks much better!
Oh, I love this! I agree that the smaller one is more in my palette of choice – more subdued, but the size of the larger one looks better from that angle. I love Home Goods for rugs – I’ve found several, and what a bargain!
Ilike the new rug better – it’s more vibrant and that plays off nicely with all the contrasts in the room. Keep it, it looks wonderful.
I have to admit I agree with your initial assessment… the pattern/subtlety of the smaller rug is better… but you def need it in a larger size.
Looks like there are a ton of mixed reviews here! Good luck finding your own opinion amongst all of the input! ;)
Aaah. That is so beautiful. I wish my boyfriend didn’t like the oriental rug that his Mom got him so much so I could splurge on one like this!
I kinda think you’re splitting hairs here. I’m just as picky when it comes to home decor. My vote is rug number #1. I think the size is the most important element, since the color and pattern is so close. But….kids are slobs. My suggestion if you do keep a rug under the dining room table is to scotchgaurd the crap out of it, keep a couple spare cans stashed somewhere and invest in a steam cleaner and maybe a small dog too (if you don’t already have one.)So you don’t have to vaccuum so much :0). Anyhow love the site and the infertility one too! How did your beachy room end up?
I love, love, love HomeGoods! I seriously need to stay away from that place! And I think I like the bigger one better :)
we did the same thing, rug at HomeGoods. Have you figured out how to clean it? Do not steam clean it for sure, it damages the rug. I already tried, it left me with water stains which I spent days brushing out with our cat brush (which did help a bit to get the fibers back to normal.
Our kitten tends to sometimes return his breakfast and I am trying to figure out how to clean the wet stains from the “faux silk” without any damage to the rug. I also tried a carpet cleaner. That does well in vaccuming up the breakfast left overs but leaves huge water stains which do not come out.
if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.
Irene, I haven’t tried to clean it as, in all honesty, we’ve used our dining room table a total of about 2 times since moving in..so the rug only needs vacuuming!
BUT, we did live in an apartment in FL that had white carpet and we have a dog that had her share of stomach illnesses.. and we found the BEST product.. its called “spot shot” and I swear, its amazing. Totally toxic I’m sure, but amazing. GL!
Thanks, I’ll try that. Oh, and congrats on the little one. :)
